The meaning of the first petitions

“Our Father” already says a lot: God is Father, and the word “our” reminds us that we do not pray alone, but with others and for them. “Hallowed be thy name” asks that God be honored as holy, starting with our own lives.
“Thy kingdom come” and “thy will be done” place our wishes under God’s plan. Whoever prays this way does not impose what they want, but trusts that God’s way is better.
