The meaning of the images

The psalm uses simple images: a hiding place, shade, feathers, a shield. All of them speak of shelter. The central point is trust: whoever takes refuge in God is not free of difficulty, but is not alone in it.
The “snare of the fowler” and the “terror by night” stand for hidden dangers and fears that come at night. The psalm answers them with the presence of God.
